How it works

percentage ≈ interpolate GPA on the table 4.0≈96, 3.7≈92, 3.3≈88, 3.0≈85, 2.0≈75, 1.0≈65

There is no single official GPA-to-percentage formula — schools and countries map them differently. This tool interpolates a widely used US anchor table (A ≈ 95, B ≈ 85, C ≈ 75, D ≈ 65) rather than the crude "GPA × 25", which overstates lower grades. A 5.0-scale GPA is first rescaled to the 4.0 scale before conversion.

Worked example

A 3.5 GPA sits halfway between the 3.3 (≈ 88%) and 3.7 (≈ 92%) anchors, so it interpolates to about 90% — an A− on the plus/minus scale.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an exact GPA-to-percentage formula?

No universal one. Some schools publish their own table, WES and other evaluators use their own bands, and Indian universities often use percentage = GPA × 9.5 or similar. Always prefer your institution’s official conversion when one exists.

Why not just multiply GPA by 25?

GPA × 25 makes a 3.0 equal 75% and a 2.0 equal 50%, which badly understates the middle of the range where a 2.0 is really around a C (≈ 75%). A calibrated table matches real grade boundaries far better.

How do I convert a 10-point CGPA?

This tool covers the 4.0 and 5.0 scales. For a 10-point CGPA, many Indian universities multiply by 9.5 for an approximate percentage, but confirm the factor your university specifies.
